This Week's Stories
Windows 10 takes a pause

  •  No more C and D week Windows 10 updates starting in May
  •  Windows 10 1709 users get an extra six months of free security updates
  •  Still no sign of Windows 10 2004. Maybe in early/mid-April?
  •  Related: There's a new Windows 10 Insider Chief in town: Amanda Langowski takes the helm
  •  Did Panos use some code words to suggest changes are coming?
  •  Related: Hackers are exploiting a previously undisclosed Windows vulnerability

More Windows 10

  •  Microsoft posts a video celebrating Windows 10 and one billion users
  •  Lots of excitement over nothing for some reason

Edge is on pause, too

  •  Google will skip Chromium 81, 82 because of Coronavirus restrictions
  •  Microsoft will have to do so for Edge, too, after it previously announced a pause

Teams is on a roll (not surprisingly)

  •  Microsoft says Teams now has 44 million daily active users, up from 32 million the week prior
  •  Will we see "Teams for Life" next week when MS unveils its new M365 Consumer subscription plan?

Microsoft's cloud services are (mostly) holding up

  •  MS is throttling some "non-essential" O365 services
  •  Azure is running out of capacity in Europe. And seemingly in the U.S., too
  •  Related: Microsoft kills Inspire 2020

Hardware

  •  Apple releases mouse/trackpad and mouse cursor support on iPad. Sorry, Surface fans. This is a game-changer.
  •  HP, Microsoft, Valve partner on new ‘next-gen’ VR headset

Xbox

  •  Microsoft is testing xCloud for PC and some screenshots leaked

Tips and picks

  •  Tip of the week: Stay (digitally) safe during the Coronavirus. Microsoft has some advice, especially about email
  •  Plus: I finished the WPF version of .NETpad. You can build it for yourself if you'd like. (You need to be a Thurrott Premium member. Maybe this is a good time to support quality content online. Just saying.)
  •  App pick of the week: DOOM 64 for Xbox One and PC. Forget the new DOOM game unless you like ice skating. The better DOOM 64! And it's only $5!! You can get it on Xbox or on PC (Steam)
  •  Plus: Google Podcasts for Android and now iOS
  •  Enterprise pick of the week: New Microsoft 365 F1 plan. M365 F1 is going to become F3 and a new, cheaper and less fully-featured F1 is coming. Yeah, it's complicated
  •  Codename pick of the week: Coyote. Microsoft Research has been doing work on P#. Its evolution is codenamed Coyote. Coyote is an open-source .NET framework that is for developers designing, implementing and testing code in ways that embrace non-determinism and asynchrony. It's more than just pie in the sky: It's being used by Azure Compute in Azure Batch and Blockchain. (Thanks to The Walking Cat for finding this.)
  •  Beer pick of the week: Scratch Brewing Co. Lemon Balm Sour. Scratch Brewing is a brewery that uses foraged ingredients to make beer. Think mushrooms, lemon balm, lemongrass, etc. Lemon Balm Sour, a wild ale, is a fantastic lemony sour.
