COVID-19 NOTICE

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and our efforts to keep the TWiT staff healthy, the TWiT Eastside Studio is still closed to all visitors except during special events.
Sorry, but there are no exceptions. You're welcome to come and take pictures outside or find our geocache.

The TWiT Eastside Studio opened on August 21, 2016. It is TWiT's third location, following the TWiT Brick House and TWiT Cottage. The studio is located on the "east side" of Petaluma.

For the first time since early 2020, we will be opening up our studio to Club TWiT members during special live recordings of This Week in Tech.  To ensure that we're prepared for your visit and we have space available, we ask that you complete our online form. Audience space is not guaranteed unless you complete the online form to reserve space. If we have room in our audience and you are a current member of Club TWiT, we will confirm your request via email within several business days. While we do not offer studio tours, guests will have the opportunity to take pictures and/or meet hosts post-show.

Visiting the TWiT Eastside Studio

The TWiT Eastside Studio, home to TWiT, is located at 1351-B Redwood Way, Petaluma, CA 94954. Here it is on Google Maps.

Fans are welcome to visit our studios and join the audience for a show Sunday or Tuesday through Thursday. The studio is closed to visitors on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

If you wish to visit the TWiT Eastside Studio, send an e-mail to tickets@twit.tv at least 24 hours in advance of your visit. Include the date and time of your arrival, the show(s) you would like to watch, and your name and the names of anyone else coming with you. (You can find our schedule at twit.tv/schedule, but keep in mind that recording times are approximate.) We recommend coming 15 minutes before the show you plan on watching for seating, but please do not arrive more than 30 minutes before the start of a show. Shows in the main studio can accommodate approximately 20 audience members. Shows in Leo's office can accommodate up to 5 audience members. Leo is usually only in the studio on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, but we can make no guarantees. TWiT is closed to visitors on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. On major US holidays and during the week of Christmas, TWiT is closed to visitors and not in production.

We do not allow backpacks, bags, or large purses into the studio. Additionally, no weapons of any kind (firearms, knives, pocket knives, etc.) are permitted in the studio. Finally, you will be asked upon arrival to sign a waiver. Be aware that all persons entering the studio may be subject to search.

Children and Pets

We love animals, but please don't bring them to the studio.

We love kids, but it can be unreasonable to expect them to sit still and quiet for long stretches of time and to not touch anything during the taping of a show. We discourage bringing children under 12, especially during a broadcast, and ask that you notify us in advance if you are bringing children with you. If you do bring your children with you to the studio they must be supervised by you at all times.

Please Remember Your Equipment!

When you leave, PLEASE remember all your equipment. We have a variety of folks that visit and a small, busy staff. It may take us a while to locate and return your USB key, flash drive, Bluetooth headset, camera lens cap, cable, power cord, jacket, phone, or purse. We'll try to get your lost items back to you as best we can, but we can't be responsible for anything left at the TWiT Eastside Studio.

You're On Live Internet TV!

The easiest way to think of TWiT TV is as an always-on reality television show about the making of an Internet TV network. Anything said or done in the studio by Leo, hosts, guests, or in-studio audience will be broadcast live to our audio and video channels. Depending on what time and show you're here for, all or some of the video may later be repurposed and reposted online in other forms by either us or our fans. But don't worry, it's fun! Also, if you're visiting the studio to interview Leo himself for another publication or show, that interview, too, will likely be broadcast live to our fans.

Getting a Copy of TWiT's audio or video

All TWiT TV shows are posted in audio and video formats to the TWiT.tv website as well as to TWiT's YouTube channels or on the page for each show. Audio and video are almost always posted the same day. We may or may not post any pre-show or post-show content to our TWiT+ feed for Club TWiT members. We are unable to respond to requests for copies of any other footage. If you would like to be certain that you get your own copy of the video, coordinate to have a very tech-savvy friend with a high speed connection watch the network while you're in studio and record it for you. It is perfectly acceptable to put any clip of your own TWiT appearance on YouTube.

Directions to TWiT Eastside Studio

The drive from the Golden Gate Bridge takes 50 minutes with no traffic (other parts of San Francisco add as much as 20-30 minutes, from San Francisco International Airport add 40 minutes or more). During the rush hour from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, allow an extra hour for the drive. There is no northbound rush hour at any other time on weekdays, but construction on Highway 101 may cause delays north of Novato at other times.

After heading north on US-101 for about 40 miles after the Golden Gate Bridge, take exit 476 for Old Redwood Highway. Turn right onto Old Redwood Highway and continue past the traffic light and IHOP to Redwood Way. Turn right then turn into the first parking lot entrance on the right. TWiT is in the building to the left just beyond the "Broadcom" section.

From Oakland International Airport (OAK)

The drive from Oakland International Airport can actually sometimes be faster to Petaluma than SFO, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. The general directions are to go northward to freeways I-880 North, I-580 West, across the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge, and US-101 North until getting to Petaluma, but it's easier than it sounds. Link to best directions below:

From Sonoma County Charles Shultz Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa

The drive from the Sonoma County Airport is the easiest. After exiting the airport, head south on US-101 to Petaluma. It's about a 30 minute drive.

Parking

Free parking is located right outside the studio.

Public Transportation

Golden Gate Transit

To travel to Petaluma and the TWiT Eastside Studio via public transportation, use Golden Gate Transit's bus system. The journey takes approx. 90 mins each way from San Francisco, (92 minutes from Van Ness & Geary Streets) and runs every hour or so on weekdays.

Not every bus stop will work for you, so look for signs with the GGT logo with green, orange and blue waves on the bus stop signage. The bus from San Francisco is numbered as "101", however most of the bus stop signage will make no mention of the 101 route. The cost of this trip (as of June 2016) is $11.25 each way. While no change is available on the bus, a charge card may be issued which works similar to a transfer card on future journeys. Best to use exact change -- $5 and $1 bills, dollar coins and quarters.

The 101 bus will take you to the Petaluma Transit Mall. From there, you can get a Sonoma Country Transit bus to the corner of Old Redwood Highway and McDowell Boulevard. It's a short walk from there over to the TWiT Eastside Studio. Visit the "SF Bay Trip Planner" and it will tell you your best route. If you need help, you can dial 5-1-1 from any phone and use the automated system.

Sonoma County Airport Express

Sonoma County Airport Express is $34 one way or $66 round trip (as of June 2016) from SFO and OAK. The trip is just over an hour and you will be dropped off 3.5 miles from the TWiT Eastside Studio. You can get a cab, Uber, or Lyft from there.

Petaluma is the first stop when arriving from SFO. Trips from SFO to Petaluma run hourly from 5:30 am to 12:30 am. Trips from Petaluma to SFO run hourly from 3:30 am to 10:30 pm.

Petaluma is the second stop when arriving from OAK. Trips from OAK to Petaluma run hourly from 5:30 am to 9:30 pm. Trips from Petaluma to OAK run hourly from 3:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Petaluma

Petaluma is a 150-year-old town of 60,000 people sitting 35 miles north of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. Petaluma sits at the foot of Sonoma County at the gateway to the wine country of Sonoma and Napa counties. We hope you enjoy Petaluma's "Main Street" charm, which has made it the perfect backdrop for a number of films, including American Graffiti, Peggy Sue Got Married, Explorers, Howard the Duck, and Basic Instinct.

Accommodations

Petaluma is thin on accommodations, but there are some options:

Geek Gear

Petaluma prides itself on not being fraught with chain stores, so there is no Fry's. However, for those in a pinch, some items can be found at World of Stereo (audio gear), Target, and Staples. The closest Apple stores are 15 miles north in Santa Rosa or 30 miles south in Corte Madera.
